First and foremost your friend must enable coversation log, in the msn messenger settings otherwise it won't save the messages she has written previously. If she HAS enabled it, you should find it in the same root menu (folder) beside your own conversation folder.

I don't think you can retrieve the chat log history. Because the log is only saved at the computer she was using before. It is not saved online.

chat logs are usually only visible on the computer that they were saved on. if its turned on then whatever you type on that computer gets saved so you cant see what you typed on another computer

You cannot view a chat log unless the chat took place on that computer. It only logs and stores what was mentioned on that computer. You cannot view logs that were made on another computer... those logs will be on the other computer that the account is normally on if the person has it set to log.

Maybe I have an older version of windows live, but I was under the impression that chat logs were only saved in the recieved files on the computer you have the conversations on. If your friend had conversations on your computer and opted to save them, you could view them in your 'recieved files' folder. If not, you're out of luck.
