Things You Should Never Do for Search Engine Optimization

Stay away from cloaking.
Cloaking your Web site is a sure-fire way to get banned from Google.

Stay away from Duplicate content
Google has been known to ban sites that duplicate too much content.

Stay away: Have a robot write your website
Write your own content. That's as simple as it gets. Don't buy "instant AdSense" Web sites. If this really made lots of passive money, they wouldn't be selling them.

Don't Add keywords that don't relate to your content
When you list keywords, do list keywords that directly relate to your site, and don't repeat the same keyword multiple times. Spamming keywords can lowered your ranking in Google.

Stay away: Link to Bad Neighborhoods
How do you know it's a bad neighborhood? Check their PageRank and scan the Web site for any of the violations you see here.

Stay away: Hide Text
Don't try to hide keywords by making the background color the same as the font color. This is called keyword stuffing or fontmatching. Google and other search engine dislike it.

Stay away: Title Stacking
Don't try to add extra <title> tags for more keywords. This cousin of keyword stuffing is called title stacking, and it won't win you any friends at Google.

Stay away: Doorway Pages
Be aware of affiliate programs, because some of these may look like doorway pages to Google.

Stay Away: Distribute Viruses, Trojans, or Other Badware
If your site is distributing a virus, trojan, or other badware, Google's going to remove you from their index for the public good. This should be a no-brainer.

Stay away: Automated Inquiries
Automated Google queries and automated link submission are both against Google's terms of service, and both of them can get your site banned.

Regarding this...

I know that if your keywords in your pages are in bold or italics it counts towards your page's rank. But of course it's not visually attractive to emphasize your keywords in any page using bold, italics or underlining.

So if I do that, and at the same time block the <b> and <i> tags with CSS, would this be considered as keyword stuffing?

I'd have a code like this;

Code:
<p>Text here. Blah, blah. Here's a <b>keyword</b></p>
but in fact, the bold tag would be invisible when the page is rendered with a browser.

I don't think that's is a keyword stuffing. I found another article about hidden text:
Quote:
What is "hidden text?"

Hidden text is textual content which your visitors cannot see, but which is still readable by the search engines. The idea is to load a Web page with keywords and keyword phrases that would be unsightly to visitors but that would improve the page's rankings in the search engine results, and to do so without letting your visitors see the text. Hidden text is identified as search spam by each of the major search engines.
